Whether it is a localised issue or a wider area issue, most businesses will experience them at some point. However a power cut is caused there is little you can do to avoid them but there are measures you can take to minimise the potential consequences to your business. #### What is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)? An uninterruptible power supply is a piece of hardware that acts to protect your computer equipment and the data stored on it. It is a backup power source that will keep your computer equipment running either until the power is restored, you obtain a generator or you decide to power off your equipment. Small UPS units can protect individual computers while larger UPS units can protect multiple computers and servers or the whole of an office. #### Benefits of UPS Power cuts can damage computers and particularly servers. Unexpected computer shutdowns can cause damage to the hardware and cause the loss of any data that has not been saved. A UPS device can ensure you don't experience that scenario. The UPS will allow you to carry on working almost as normal for a period of time. If the power cut is for a long period of time the UPS gives you the time to save work before the computers are turned off. Additionally UPS devices can stabilise the power delivered to your equipment keeping the voltage consistent.
